The Math is Strong in Me

Its real late but I was looking into finding a great resource to re-learn math that applies to 3d environments. I also have always wanted to learn physics to. But I will get to that soon. As oddly I prefer simpler self built physics system than the one used in unity strictly because of predictability. (i'm getting off subject...) Anyway I found a great resource at a place called www.scribd.com.

The book I began reading is called 3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development. It appears to be a good place to read high quality books for free. The appear to be supported by ads much like music is from pandora or groove shark.

The link to the specific book I'm reading is here:

Now for some sleep...

Numember Me?!

One of the most challenging reflect games until proven otherwise. Numember Me contains 10 incrementally challenging levels. Each level adds a new shape with a specific rule. The Goal? Strike down the shapes as they appear using the numeric keypad or letter equivalent (for laptops). This game puts your visual comprehension to the test, as you quickly discern one shape, color, and number from many others. Just 60 seconds per level and you will be put on the borderline of mental confusion. Try it out! The game is free to play at Kongregate!

m7Discovery

I have released the m7Discovery yesterday. This game may analyze songs and generate dynamic platform levels of various heights in scale to the length of music. This is my first game and may be played here on Kongregate. The end result being that music influences the outcome of the experience right down to the way the level is designed. It appears the game is overlooked or misunderstood however, I am personally proud that I have achieved an original music game unlike any other.

The game generates musical notes across the level which the player may collect. Each note represents a small percentage of the overall song being played. As the player collects music the song is able to play. There is a giant beam of light the travels across the stage representing the songs progress. This beam of light will stop as soon as the limit of musical notes has been reached. Each consecutive music note obtained will attribute to the volume of the song thus increasing the bonus points received through collecting and fighting.

In the game's normal and hard difficulty monsters will appear when the beat of music is high. The player is able to attack the monsters for combos and points. Monsters may respawn and will also increase in difficulty further in the level.

This game includes a great deal of excellent game design features although they are not fully realized in the game yet. This features will be updated and used for future projects. The technology involved is my StarLaw AI, 2.5DZ-axis platform environments, numeric audio analyzation and procedural tiling function.

Wait?! This isn't really Javascript!!

Sadly, about a month into first learning about Unity I found out the age old legend of JavaScript. The JavaScript language in Unity is not traditional JavaScript but actually UnityScript. A proprietary built in language that is actually extremely similar to JavaScript but with limitations. At the time I was too far into my work to be bothered with re-learning in C#.

As of yesterday I have begun my journey into the world of C# and I am impressed with the way code seems to be more organized. Could it be the Object Oriented-ness of C Sharp? Who knows? But I am growing to be impressed by it. However, I am also being exposed to the errors of my ways programming in UnityScript. I believe I will always prefer JavaScript-ish languages probably because my first language was Action Script 2. But learning C Sharp will definitely benefit me in not only the way I code in UnityScript but also keep me well rounded for future projects and possibly teams.

If anyone would like to know, I am learning Csharp from www.LearnVisualStudio.net
It's not free but seems to be a good alternative to learning from a book. And the author/creator is very charismatic and keeps your attention.

Long Time Coming

It's been quite a few months since my last post on my very on Blog. I decided to take a long focused session on getting my knowledge and other bearings on Unity3d. All though most of my time has been a learning experience, it all has gone into the development of TechnoRiffter (working title). So I am finally at a point where I have picked up plenty of steam to take this project to another level of development.

Recently, I have finished work on a music sequencer which was going to be part of the original game. However, once again I had to make game design changes and adapt the way the game plays with rhythm, music and beats. The outcome was actually much more impressive than I thought.

Music Riffter, Music Sequencer

I have made Music Riffter available on Kongregate. So you can check it out and see my first product since working with Unity. It hasn't gathered much development attention, which surprised me. I still believe it was an achievement of good design so I spent a few days documenting and commenting over 2,500 lines of code. So if you would like to see how I did it, the entire source and project files are on the Unity Assets Store for a small fee.

What the Hack am I designing?

Since November of 2010 I've had this concept burning in the back of my mind. Sadly, have been working 50+ hours a week with my dead end warehouse job. At the time however, I have been hoping to find the "right" software to develop the games of my dreams. Hooray, after going through well over 15 applications I decided to purchase a longtime home with Unity3d. Everything just feels right and I really am inspired by the direction of the Software development team.

As of today I am 2 weeks into the start of my project. What is it? What does it do? Its a music / platform game tie in. I have designed it from the perspective of a gamer that enjoys music games among others. The idea initially started from a comment made from an individual in the forum of another indie music title. The individual stated something in reference to waiting for a game that takes much better advantage of music in a more interactive way than just hitting buttons in succession to the music.

So I started thinking, "Woah, it would be great to have a music game do ..." and i came up with my current idea and concept. I am no game design successor or have a reputation that precedes me. But I have my personal set of guidelines to Quality Game Design. I'm hoping I can prove the design method successful by implementing the essentials into a easy to pick up and play game.

Finally Got One of These

So I figured I'd get one of these so called Web Logs or weblogs up. I'm currently in the middle of game development and I have experienced the equivalent of writer's  block. This will be an area of the www more for myself but welcome to anyone that takes interest in documentation of my work.

I currently go by the development name of Starpaq. What kind of name is this and how many days did it take for me to come up with such a half unoriginal idea? Personally everything I do and decide for some reason or another has to have some sort of back-story or reasoning behind it. So somewhere in the year 2010 during April I came up with this name while writing this short entry (currently on a crumpled piece of pc paper written in pen).
As follows:

StarPAQ
 - is just what the name says. No matter what kind of content you are looking for, its all about the way it's delivered... in star quality. Quality entails much more than the outcome of the product but also includes the experience. Whether you are new to the internet and have little less of an idea how to get started or you have a list of expectations. You can be assured that you are looking in the right place. So without further Adieu I would like to personally introduce you to the name of

StarPAQ - Star Products And Quality
